Q Project Recap Throughout this Capstone in Psychology, you will be working on a research project that examines a social justice issue through the lens of 2-3 psychological theories. Recall that the four goals of scientific research are: describe, explain, predict and control. Thus, you will be examining a specific social justice issue of interest to you and then applying your research findings to describe, explain, predict, and make suggestions for controlling the social justice issue of focus. In addition, throughout your research, you will want to keep in mind the power of telling a story to gain the interest of your audience and motivate social change. Your First Step As the first step in your project, you will complete a short written assignment that identifies and begins to explore the social justice issue you will be examining throughout the course. In a single page, please address the following: • Identify your social justice issue o This will be the single issue that you will be working on throughout this course. • Explain why the social justice issue is a problem that needs solving • Identify stakeholders (the people who do or should care about this issue because it impacts them) • Share your rationale for pursuing this topic (i.e., why can using psychological research be helpful in examining this problem and potential solutions). • How might psychological research be used to describe, explain, predict, and/or control the social justice issue(s) you identified? o Note: for a quick refresher on psychological research, check out this Crash Course video regarding research methods (Links to an external site.).
